What It Does

Renting mini excavators in Utah

A mini excavator is the machine most jobs reach for when a full-size excavator will not fit or would tear up more ground than the work is worth. Compact tracks spread the weight, the reduced tail swing lets the machine work close to a wall or fence, and the whole package still fits on a standard equipment trailer behind a three-quarter-ton truck.

Choosing a size

1 to 2 tons
The smallest class, narrow enough for gate access and light enough not to mark up a finished surface. Limited reach and breakout force, but often the only machine that can physically get to the work.
3 to 5 tons
The most commonly rented size. Enough digging depth for most residential utility and footing work while still trailering easily and running standard attachments.
6 to 9 tons
The upper end of compact. Meaningfully more reach, depth, and lifting capacity, at the point where transport starts to need heavier towing.

Common jobs

  • Utility trenching for water, sewer, gas, and electrical
  • Footings and foundation work on tight residential lots
  • Landscaping, pool excavation, and backyard access through a side gate
  • Demolition of small structures, slabs, and hardscape
  • Grading and backfill where a larger machine cannot turn around

Questions

Mini Excavators rental questions

What size mini excavator do I need?
Work backwards from your two hard constraints: the narrowest point the machine has to pass through, and the deepest you need to dig. Access usually decides it. If you can tell us the gate width and the trench depth, we can point you at the right class.
Do I need a special licence or trailer to rent one?
No special operator licence is required in Utah for standard mini excavator rental. Transport is the thing to plan: the machine plus trailer weight is what determines the tow vehicle you need. Call the yard and we will walk through it.
Can I get attachments with it?
Breakers, augers, thumbs, and grading buckets are common on this class. Availability varies by machine and yard, so confirm the attachment when you book rather than assuming it comes with the excavator.
